Biographie:

Arthur Lismer a célébré la beauté puissante des paysages canadiens dans un style emprunté à l'Expressionnisme. Ses peintures se caractérisent par des couleurs vives, un travail à la brosse délibérément brutal pour mettre en relief des formes simplifiées à l'extrême.

A.Lismer est né à Sheffield en Angleterre. Il a émigré au Canada à l'âge de 26 ans dans le but de trouver un travail dans le domaine publicitaire. Il a été engagé à la Grip Engraving Company à Toronto où il a rencontré un groupe d'autres jeunes artistes doués dont il s'est inspiré : le Groupe de Sept. Ensemble, ils ont organisé des voyages pour explorer et esquisser la nature sauvage capturant ainsi l'esprit du Canada à travers leurs oeuvres et apportant à l'art canadien une dimension novatrice et ambitieuse.

Bien que A. Lismer ait peint durant toute sa vie, il a également consacré la majorité de son temps à enseigner l'Art. Pédagogue doué, A. Lismer a ouvert le chemin de la connaissance de l'art chez les enfants du Canada et du monde entier.
