This
painting of Donald's is an excellent example of
his talents. It combines his accurate use of colour
with soft flowing lines to create a stunning work
that has garnered much attention.
This
painting has been reproduced in several publications
and shown at several Exhibitions of Donald's work.
It is also one of the few paintings remaining
in his Baffin Island Series.
Quotation
from Donald about this painting:
"Named after the home of the Scandinavian
Gods. Mt. asgard rises about 3,000 feet above
the tongue of the Turner Glacier (which curves
off tothe viewer's right and distance). The floor
of the Glacier is about 2500 feet above sea level.
Sketched
rapidly from our 'Northair' plane at mountain-top
altitude through Pangnirtung Pass especially suited
for artists and photographers.
In one of the James Bond movies, a skier skied
off the snow top of this pinnacle. He was to receive
$10,000 cash plus expenses if he lived but if
he died, his family was to receive $250,000. I
know the man in Frobisher, Desmond Nicklos, who
typed out the contract. The skier lived unharmed."
